01Our Commitment

The Crane Consultancy is committed to keeping its environmental impact as low as a modern consultancy can. We are a small practice, and we treat that as an advantage: it lets us run lean, choose efficient tools, and avoid the overheads that carry the heaviest footprint. This policy sets out how we work and where we look to improve.

Our principle. Deliver senior, commercially serious work while making the lowest reasonable demand on energy, travel, and materials.

02A Low-Footprint Model

We operate as a senior-led, remote-first practice. There is no large office to heat, light, and staff, and no daily commute attached to the work. Most engagements are delivered remotely, which removes the travel that a conventional agency model takes for granted. When in-person time genuinely adds value, we arrange it deliberately rather than by default.

03Digital Operations

The way we run the practice is designed to be efficient:

  • This website is built to be lightweight and fast, which reduces the energy used to serve and load it
  • It is hosted on a global edge network, so content is delivered from infrastructure built for efficiency at scale
  • We work paperless wherever possible, keeping documents, reporting, and contracts digital
  • We favour cloud tools that let us avoid dedicated hardware and the waste that comes with it
  • Equipment is kept in service for as long as it remains fit for purpose, and retired responsibly

04Travel

Remote delivery is our default, particularly for clients beyond comfortable reach of our Bath base. Where we do travel for face-to-face sessions, we prefer rail over road and air, we combine visits where it is sensible to do so, and we keep journeys to those that earn their place. This keeps the travel attached to our work modest and purposeful.

05Suppliers and Partners

We give preference to suppliers and infrastructure partners that take their own environmental responsibilities seriously, including those investing in renewable energy and efficient operations. As a small practice our buying power is limited, but we make these choices wherever a credible, comparable option exists.

06Measurement and Improvement

We review this policy and our working practices regularly, and we look for practical reductions rather than gestures. We would rather make a small, real improvement we can sustain than claim a level of impact we cannot evidence. This statement will be updated as our practice and the options available to it change.
